About MKS
Founded in April 1986, the Melbourne Kannada Sangha is dedicated to preserving and promoting Kannada culture in Melbourne, Australia. Our principal mission is to spread the beauty and celebrate vibrant Kannada music, art, literature, film, dance and craft through various initiatives.
Our Top Priorities
Melbourne Kannada Sangha (MKS) was started on 10 April 1986 by group of like minded volunteers to conduct cultural programs by inviting overseas artists and festivals such as
- Kannada Rajyotsava – celebrating the formation of Karnataka and honours the pride, language, and cultural heritage of the Kannada community.
- Ugadi – marks the Kannada New Year, celebrated with joy, cultural performances, and traditions that symbolise new beginnings and prosperity.
- Dasara – celebrating the rich cultural legacy of Karnataka, inspired by the grandeur of Mysuru Dasara with music, dance, and festive traditions.
Later on MKS was registered as non-profit organisation in June 2005 with a elected official committee to manage the activities of Sangha. Our principal focus is now on spreading the beauty and celebrating vibrant Kannada music, art, literature, film, dance and craft.
